Sell Everywhere. And Then What?

Shopify has made it possible to sell almost anywhere. The harder question for merchants is which of those possibilities is worth pursuing first — and what it should be expected to return.

Shopify has made it possible to sell almost anywhere. The harder question for merchants is which of those possibilities is worth pursuing first — and what it should be expected to return.

In June, Shopify released the Spring ’26 Edition.

Its name was “Everywhere.”

More than 150 updates across the platform. We’ve spent the past couple of months working through what they mean for the merchants we build for.

Here’s our point of view.

The most important announcement was a change in where commerce happens.

For years, the job was relatively clear: bring customers to your storefront, help them find the right product, and remove friction from checkout.

Spring ’26 points to something bigger.

A customer may now discover a product through an AI conversation, receive a personalized recommendation, and complete a purchase without ever visiting a website.

Shopify is building the infrastructure to help merchants succeed in that future.

  • Shopify Catalog — structured product data, prepared for AI channels

  • The Universal Commerce Protocol — an open standard allowing products, carts, and checkout to work across entirely new experiences

  • Agentic Storefronts — a single place in the admin to manage and measure them

Alongside a more capable Sidekick, native experimentation, and a steady expansion of retail POS, B2B, and international capability.

Five outcomes – not 150 features.

Read across the full Edition, the updates resolve into a small number of things Shopify is helping merchants pursue:

  • Be discovered in more places

  • Convert more shoppers

  • Test and learn faster

  • Operate with less friction

  • Expand without multiplying complexity

These aren’t isolated improvements. Together they’re creating a more intelligent and connected commerce platform — one that helps merchants move from discovery to conversion, and from insight to action, much faster.

The strength that creates the question.

That pace and breadth of innovation are among Shopify’s greatest strengths. It’s also why the question we’re hearing from merchants with increasing frequency isn’t:

“What can Shopify do?”

It’s:

“How do I prioritize where to invest — and what return should I reasonably expect?”

Access to capability was never the constraint. Choosing well is.

That’s the role of Commerce Intelligence at iamota.

We combine merchant data, AI-assisted analysis, and deep Shopify expertise to identify the opportunities with the greatest potential commercial impact, build the business case, and establish how success will be measured.

Our focus is on knowing what to do next and why, not about doing everything at once.

One merchant came to us to explore AI features for customer experience. A perfectly reasonable brief. Their own data pointed somewhere else — 20% of customers were generating 76% of revenue, and every one of them was a multi-product buyer. The opportunity wasn’t a smarter interface. It was selling routines, timing replenishment, and building retention around outcomes. The implementation didn’t become less important. It became better aimed.

“The value of 150 new capabilities isn’t having access to them. It’s knowing which ones matter to your business.”

What’s next?

Shopify will keep expanding what’s possible. That’s the ecosystem working as it should — the platform widening the field, partners helping merchants apply it to the specific realities of their businesses.

For merchants, the value of 150+ new capabilities isn’t simply having access to them. It’s turning the right capabilities into better customer experiences, stronger operations, and measurable commercial returns.

The merchants who pull ahead in this next chapter will be the ones who know which few capabilities will move their business.

Congratulations to the Shopify team on another ambitious Edition — and on continuing to expand what’s possible for merchants and partners alike.
