ONNIT

Onnit is a holistic wellness company founded in 2010 by Aubrey Marcus and co-founded by Joe Rogan. The brand offers supplements, functional nutrition, and content aimed at “total human optimization.” Its flagship nootropic, Alpha BRAIN®, helped establish Onnit as a category leader and led to its acquisition by Unilever in 2021. Fast forward to 2025. Onnit sought to unify and migrate both the DTC and B2B commerce businesses to Shopify Plus. Additionally, Onnit wanted to launch with a rebrand, dial up conversion focussed UX and improve subscription performance.

Designed to Build Product and Brand Trust

Nootropics and the concept of supplements for peak mind and body performance is still new for many consumers.  So we focused on building trust – starting with product ingredients and formulation, then highlighting benefits, efficacy and ultimately establishing confidence in the brand itself.

The site’s navigation guides users to the right product by benefit or product line, while each PDP clearly communicates expected effects. A dedicated glossary allows users to explore ingredients in depth, and customer testimonials are embedded throughout the experience to provide social proof and validation.

Putting Subscriptions at the Heart of the Business

With trust in place, the experience encourages ongoing product use through a subscription-first model to support best results. The default purchase option is a subscription, complete with pre-defined delivery frequency and visible savings to minimize friction and highlight value.

Leveraging Shopify and Ordergroove’s integrated discounting, we streamlined operations – removing the previous dependency on duplicate products just to support promotional pricing.

Consolidating DTC and B2B on Shopify

Building on the strength of the DTC site, we launched a dedicated B2B storefront to serve North American and European wholesale customers – simplifying their ordering experience and significantly reducing internal admin tasks.

Migrating from Magento to Shopify unlocked major efficiencies: better catalog structure, flexible pricing based on company and location, and easier management of checkout workflows. Shopify’s native B2B functionality replaced previous workarounds with a scalable, streamlined foundation.
