Renew Wellness Brands is a health and wellness ecommerce company that operates a portfolio of digital-first brands offering practitioner-approved supplements, functional health products, and personal care. They sought to migrate two brands (Natural Healthy Concepts (NHC) and Professional Supplements Center) from NetSuite SCA to Shopify Plus, transitioning off an antiquated, ERP-heavy stack to a scalable and flexible Shopify Plus solution. All while applying modern ecommerce best practices to improve performance and user experience, and setting the brands up on a fresh new subscription platform – Recharge.

A Subscription Experience Upgrade

We shifted from treating subscriptions as an afterthought to becoming truly subscription-first, addressing a previously clunky experience with limited customer controls and inflexible discounts. By implementing Recharge, we made subscriptions the default on the PDP, introduced product-level subscription savings, and created a smoother path to subscribe through clear benefits messaging and checkout upgrades. Customers gained more flexibility through a self-serve subscription portal, while the brand improved retention and operations with smarter order management and loyalty credits for both subscribers and one-time buyers.

Two Sites from One Shared Codebase

We optimized the migration, design, and development of this two-site project by building both stores on a shared foundation. This ensured consistent functionality, content management, and app integrations, while allowing brand-specific features – such as NHC’s member pricing and loyalty program – to be layered on without fragmenting the codebase. Using Figma’s variable modes functionality to automate styling, paired with leveraging CSS variables in our custom built style guide, we delivered two distinct brand experiences from a single, scalable design system and codebase.

Migrating and Managing a Diverse Catalog

With over 15K SKUs across 650+ brands, we needed a catalog foundation that could scale without sacrificing accuracy or maintainability. We mapped product data between NetSuite and Shopify for both the initial migration and ongoing data syncs to ensure a consistent, reliable source of truth. Using the existing structured data, we designed PDP templates that flex across diverse product categories while keeping content clear for shoppers and easy for the team to manage long-term.

Tiered Gating Logic for Restricted Products

Product gating was implemented to meet brand requirements by restricting access only to users who are eligible to view and purchase certain products. Gating operates through levels – from disabling purchase options to fully hiding products – and requires actions such as logging in, contacting customer service, or booking a practitioner consultation to gain access. The gating logic and UI cues (on both product pages and cards) are driven by customer, product, and collection metafields to determine eligibility and display the appropriate content.
