Lethal Performance

A decade-old catalog gets a clean-slate rebuild - migrating a fitment-heavy automotive parts business onto Shopify Plus. Lethal Performance is an industry-leading online retailer specializing in high-performance aftermarket parts for late-model domestic (mostly Ford) sports cars. Operating a legacy (end-of-life) Magento 1 platform, the business had outgrown its foundation and was weighed down by technical and UX debt that constrained growth. Lethal Performance partnered with iamota to lead a migration to Shopify Plus, modernizing the tech stack, lowering operating costs, and delivering a fitment-first experience to improve product discoverability and drive higher conversion.

Rebuilding a 500,000-SKU catalog from three different sources into one clean data model

Rebuilding a 500,000-SKU catalog from three different sources into one clean data model

Lethal's catalog spanned hundreds of thousands of SKUs. A mix of Lethal's own warehoused inventory with real-time product feeds from two drop-ship partners was combined into a single, unified data model on Shopify Plus. A decade of undocumented bundle and "build-your-own" configuration logic - hundreds of bundle variations and tens of thousands of configurable products - had never existed anywhere as clean, structured data. Rather than lift-and-shift a decade of legacy Magento workarounds, iamota used the migration as a clean-slate opportunity to rebuild fitment, collection, and merchandising logic natively.

Putting Fitment at the Center of the Shopping Experience

Putting Fitment at the Center of the Shopping Experience

For a catalog this large, finding the right part for the right vehicle is everything. Year/Make/Model fitment is the foundation of the experience, allowing every shopper to narrow an enormous automotive catalog to the parts that fit their vehicle. A persistent "My Garage" lets returning customers save their vehicles and shop by fitment without re-entering it every visit, while a single, flexible Vehicle Landing Page template scales across a massive range of Year/Make/Model combinations, with room for Lethal to layer in unique content for specific vehicles.

Making Infinitely Complex Products Feel Simple to Shop

Making Infinitely Complex Products Feel Simple to Shop

Lethal's catalog includes products where changing one option could unlock, restrict, or reprice dozens of others. This was a level of configuration complexity that off-the-shelf Shopify bundle apps couldn't support. Rather than stitching together separate tools for fixed bundles, quantity-controlled bundles, and fully custom-built products, iamota designed one unified framework to handle all three. All of that backend complexity stays invisible to the shopper: a simple, guided front-end experience sits on top of a highly configurable data model underneath.

Designing the Chaos

Designing the Chaos

One of the key challenges on Lethal Performance was reconciling a brand identity of clashing neon pink and green, heavy patterns, and often hard-to-read typography versus the need for a usable, accessible ecommerce experience. Rather than a full overhaul, iamota's approach was to strategically update. Existing button styling was kept but rebuilt with accessible color rules, a new monospace font was introduced to reinforce the brand's technical, spec-driven product feel, and bright accent colors were reserved for smaller high-impact details like tags and carousel arrows rather than competing with content. The result preserved the brand's authentic energy while making it usable at scale.
